This salad just makes me happy. I just love it when my food is brightly colored especially in the harvest of the season. I am a sucker for any kind of farmers market and I am a huge proponent of buying locally. We like to frequent farm to table type places and in the summer and Fall, I find myself buying fresh fruits and vegetables a few times a week.

Around here, September is Apple season and my favorite is definitely a honey crisp so this beautiful salad was crafted with the sweet apple in mind. And in addition to being a proponent buying locally, I am also a huge proponent of antioxidants! I try to consume several rich in antioxidant foods a day. This salad packs a punch with the broccoli, strawberries, nuts and I added a pear too. It's so customizable.
I toyed with the idea of making a homemade poppyseed dressing and you certainly could but for ease, I just went with my favorite brand, T Marzetti's, the lighter version. I added bacon to be a rebel and I'm oh so glad I did! This broccoli concoction has nothing on they tradition broccoli salad recipe.

BOUNTIFUL FRUITS-N-BROCCOLI SALAD
INGREDIENTS
1 head Broccoli, cut into bite sized pieces
1 1/2 cups chopped strawberries
1 pear, chopped
1 Honey-crisp Apple, or any other sweet Apple.
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
2/3 cup dried cranberries
8 slices cooked and crumbled bacon
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup candied pecans
1 cup poppyseed dressing (my fav is T Marzetti's light)
DIRECTIONS
In a large salad serving bowl, arrange all the ingredients. Drizzle with the poppyseed dressing. You can leave it like this to serve but what I did was toss everything together and chill in the refrigerator. After a few hours of flavors blend so nicely.
There you go, an easy peasy, healthy and beautifully colored salad. I just had to bring you a healthy recipe before we start Pumpkin Palooza 2.0 next week. But hey, Pumpkin is healthy, right?
