Who remembers the song Austin by Blake Shelton? I literally was singing the lyrics, “He figured she'd gone back to Austin
'Cause she talked about it all the time,” for a couple weeks before we were headed there.
You may remember when I talked about our Trip to Waco a couple weeks ago for the first half of that trip was spent in Austin. I have been there once before but again it was someplace that Mr. Nine had not been and he was excited to go.
We opted to stay at the Hotel Za Za in Downtown Austin because Mr. Nine has stayed at one in Dallas and just loved the modern vibes. It was one of the top rated and I must say it was very lovely. Unfortunately, the weather means too yucky to go swimming, but the breakfast, pool area and bathroom was gorgeous.
We LOVED the complimentary car service...how cool is that front?Literally the ONLY PIC of the two of us together in Austin.I had a list of places that I definitely wanted to go and I probably could write an entire post about this first one. The Taquero Mucho is just a cute little restaurant, but what makes it so magnificent is the decor and all the pink! The drinks are so creative and unique, and the pink waffles were out of this world!
They even had a pink bone booth and a Barbie box so I was in heaven!
Basically, we just decided to not only check out the South Congress area, but just walk around the city and see what we could find. A couple of our favorite stops were the original yeti store, the Tecovas shop, an ice cream shop and one of the most magnificent landscapes at a hotel that was along the river walk.
Wow..the Lawn at the Four Seasons was amazing!
Lots of murals to be found too.
That night we really did have a blast. We went to dinner at Anthem and sat in the cutest green velvet booth.
Then hit several bars with live entertainment. Rainey Street was my favorite area. With its colorful and bustling array of bars, restaurants, food trucks and entertainment venues, it's a sure bet for experiencing local characters and the vibrancy of the city. It's quieter then 6th street but so much more charming. The 90’s rock band we listened to, Star Seed from San Antonio was amazing. Well, we were probably some of the oldest people there, but of course, we fit ourselves right in and sing along to many of the songs!
I’ll talk more about this in a minute, but I wish I would’ve gotten more pictures because I absolutely loved the jumpsuit I was wearing and got several compliments on it, lol. Here's the very top half in my only trip selfie.
The next day was Easter, so we dressed up. I absolutely loved my lavender dress and brunch at Stella San Jac was just as wonderful as all the reviews said it would be. I had the best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had.
Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of Mr. Nine and I, which was extra unfortunate because we matched and didn’t even plan to on Easter Since I was not blogging at the time or being in a very good state of mind, I just wasn’t really in the picture taking mood. But I know some of you may consider going to Austin so I thought it would still make for a good post.
We really did love the Riverwalk and logged more than 20,000 steps each day. Sunday night we just got casual for dinner.
Dinner that night was Moonshine Bar & Grill. I'd rate it a 6/10 but the Apple Dumpling Dessert....a "9!"
As with Waco, I must say Austin didn’t quite live up to the expectation Mr. Nine had in his mind. It’s probably another place that we won’t go back to and we’re really scratching our heads at why so many people find it a desirable place to move to? BUT no worries, every other trip we took in 2024 was fabulous and I'll share more of those soon. Plus despite saying we weren't going to travel as much in 2025, the travel bug hit this weekend and we've got a few great trips planned.
Have you been to Austin?
Happy Fresh, New Week my Friends...
