FRIDAY FAVORITES..VACAY PART 2...WITHOUT KIDS

Happy Friday friends! So today, I’m sharing our vacation recap after the kids left when it was just my sweet Mr. Nine and I! On Wednesday, I shared some more of my vacation outfits. I took some dressier things but truly it is just so laid-back. We were sad they left, but we definitely enjoyed our time together without any place to be footloose and fancy free, lol!

1. Carefree Day & Fireworks

On the day the kids left, we were Out and About.

We went for a walk to our traditional conundrum Café for a crème Brulé frappe for me and beer for Mr. Nine. We had the best french fries in the state of Michigan at Frankz hot dog place, had a ball talking to the owner Joe, Got silly in the Grocery Store, met Mike who is a big Instagram star and works for the Harbor Lights Resort up there while he was helping wrangle a snake that was in the water that wasn’t even a water snake, lol. ( I won't show you the photo of the snake)

My View when getting ready...

Like I mentioned last week, the fireworks got rained out on the 4th so Mr. Nine and I watched them from the deck of our place of the lake the following evening and I have to say, they were spectacular!

2. Sutton's Bay
Every year when we go on a vacation, we take a day trip somewhere! Up north Michigan is literally a plethora for fabulous little lake towns and Sutton’s Bay did not disappoint! It was so darling! We did a little shopping, had a little lunch, and found with us now our favorite brewery that’s far in our years of brewery hopping, lol….

3. Hop Lot

OK, whoever created this place north of Traverse City is absolutely genius! I just wanted to stay there and camp out, LOL! You can get Smore‘s kits for all the open fire pits, they have the most wonderful food that we didn’t know about so we just after for drinks but we will definitely be headed back up there sometime. It is just cooler that I can even note. I think all of you whether you like breweries or not would love this place there were a lot of kids there and they had cute little areas like this one that I got for the web for kids to play.

In fact, before we got the photo, a little boy told me that this was “his” restaurant, lol

4. Kayaking

We literally have the most beautiful day for kayaking the two-hour truck down the Platte River! It was the perfect temperature, and we went early enough that it had not gotten too busy yet! Talk about true serenity!

Then we sat and had some snacks and found a neat little beach area that we had not known about. Our plan was to go back the next morning but unfortunately it rained. Next we were headed to...

5. Sleeping Bear Dunes Climb

We have not climbed the sand dune in years and in fact, it has been even longer for me because one year when the boys wanted to do it, I refused because it was 95° and the sand was scorching. Needless to say, they didn’t go very far but this time Mr. Nine and I made it up to the peak and what a view! Sleeping bear dunes has been noted as one of the most beautiful places in the United States. It is truly a sight to behold.

Side-note, the kayaking, and dune climb were done in the same day and by the time we were done at the dunes I truly looked my absolute worst but Mr. Nine decided it would be nice to have an early bird dinner so we could chill in the condo the rest of the night. I had no make-up with me, but we went to our favorite hole in the wall called Joe’s Friendly Tavern and I didn’t even care, now that is relaxed and vacationing, lol!

Wrapping it up..
There wasn’t much to report on our last day, like I said we got rained out for our original plans in the morning, so we just had a nice little lunch at the storm cloud, sat on the beach for a couple hours, ate our traditional Friday Fish from the Port house in the park, ate ice cream and got to enjoy a Friday evening concert in the park as well! Then it was a beautiful sunset night and a running game of rummy on the porch.

Like Diamonds by Day...Fire at night!

....And on the Way home..last walk & view of our Lighthouse, then clouds part with Beauty in the Bay and a Stop at the Farmer's Market for flowers.

Truly our favorite place on Earth!
Happy Weekend!

UP NORTH UP A NOTCH

Last week I bought you my Casual Beach Town Looks from our time on Lake Michigan. I definitely like to keep it more casual on Vacation but in the evenings, it’s always fun to get a little more jazzed up. We really didn’t have as much opportunity to do that this year and a lot of the dresses I took went unworn. But here are 4 of the little bit dressier looks so I called it up north, up a notch, LOL!

WHITE LINEN & SLEEVELESS SWEATER

The Sweater was love at first sight! It is so darling, and I knew immediately that I would pair it with white linen pants! You cannot go wrong for 20 bucks, and it is such high-quality from Target.

PINK JACKET

Oh, my friends! It is no secret that I absolutely love the designs from the mother daughter team behind a Clara Sunwoo! Remember the blue liquid leather jacket Post I shared with you this winter. And then the dynamite jumpsuitt they gave us a Grecian Vibes, it happens to be my favorite Jumpsuit ever! But anyway, enter the jacket of my dreams! This Pink Liquid Leather is such a beautiful shade, and I was tickled pink so to say defined an old shed that antique store owner freshened up with some bright colors including a pink door and a pink flamingo on top! How fun!

NAUTICAL VIBES DRESS
This Little Number had boating and beach town written all over it! Well not technically, but with the little rope tie belt I thought it would be perfect to get pictures by the marina. I wore this out for sushi one night. It’s lined super comfy and has a little bit of a twirl factor.

BUFFALO PLAID

Oh, how I love this outfit! It got a rousing “I love it” from Mr. Nine! I shared this already on my Instagram and noted that buffalo check isn’t just for the holiday season. It’s so cute year-round! This top! I could not resist the smocking and the peplum, and the huge plus is that you can wear a regular bra with it! The Shorts are the sailor style, but they are pull on from Sophia Vergara from Walmart and such wonderful quality. I love them so much that I got them in white and they are under $25!

FRIDAY FAVORITES....VACATION EDITION

I cannot stop thinking about our beach vacation and wishing I was still there. I’m telling you, nowhere have we felt safer from Covid and been more impressed with social distancing, than in northern Michigan. Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite activities from Up North!
MY FAVORITE Friday Favorites of the Year so far!

KIDS
We only got two of our kids for three days, but we sure did make the most of it! We had lots of beach fun.
The boys had seen this on TikTok, it’s where you place 4 tallboy cans of alcohol in brown bags, you get half of them that are really yucky and half of them that are decent and you mix them up and see which one you get!  Of course, I got a yucky one, and no, I didn’t drink it! Mr. Nine is not a fan of Papst Blue Ribbon either, LOL

We had a fun alfresco outing at a distillery.

And at a Brewery

And played a new game that Mr. Nine's sister got him for his birthday, and it was so much fun called Molkky from Finland

KIDS AT HOME
Not only did we come back to an immaculate house and mowed lawn, but one of our sons surprised us one day with the YouTube of him and his girlfriend being my guest hosts for the Yeti Bartender and creating the most wonderful cocktail called the Frankfort Sunset, which was the town that we were in. I’ll link it up here now so you can check out their amazing video and cocktail if you haven’t yet!

KAYAK DAY
I think our kayak day it was one of the best we’ve ever had because we kayaked a new lake and were pretty much the only ones on the lake, had a beach picnic and found an inlet where we kayaked right out to Lake Michigan.

My pictures do not ever do it justice but much of Lake Michigan is as blue as the Caribbean!

DAY TRIP to CHARLEVOIX
We’ve been to many towns in upper Michigan, but We’d never been to Charlevoix! Boy, were we in for the treat, not only was it a gorgeous day but town was precious, and my favorite parts were watching all the boats, eating at an amazing Cantina with the best margarita....

And finding this darling flower shop for a photo op!
Next year, I’m going to wear a pale pink dress in front of those flowers, LOL!

And oh yeah, the mushroom houses!

And the fun didn’t stop after Charlevoix, we went to a really cool place called Mammoth Distillery where we were pretty much the only ones in there taste testing.

Then ended the evening with a beautiful sunset and our favorite fries from a place called Frank’s!

ST. AMBROSE CELLARS
This amazing place has been around for a decade, but it was our first time visiting! It was all outside and tables were about 12 feet apart, they had a food truck where we tried jackfruit for the first time, which tastes like pulled pork but it’s fruit! A great singer was playing music in the barn and my slushy made with their rose and mead was delicious! A delightful evening.
The food above looks like pulled pork but it is JackFruit and it was soooo good!

TRADITIONS
Traditions on our annual vacation are always very important to us. While there weren’t as many this year because not all our fam was there, we still partook in some of the best. Like Ray's Burger Joint in Grand Haven on the way up and way back.

Walks on the Pier

Friday Night Fish Dinners from the Port City Smokehouse

Delightful Lemon Custard Ice Cream at the Frankfort Dairy Maid.

And My annual creme brûlée frappe on the way out of town at the Conundrum Cafe!

Taking Our Time Heading Home
We are never in a hurry to get home, so we take the scenic route and this time we stopped at a yummy Creamery. Got some chocolate milk and came home with cheese and cheese filled beef sticks. I was really hoping that cow would've been bigger, lol!
