Who remembers the song Austin by Blake Shelton? I literally was singing the lyrics, “He figured she'd gone back to Austin
'Cause she talked about it all the time,” for a couple weeks before we were headed there.
You may remember when I talked about our Trip to Waco a couple weeks ago for the first half of that trip was spent in Austin. I have been there once before but again it was someplace that Mr. Nine had not been and he was excited to go.
We opted to stay at the Hotel Za Za in Downtown Austin because Mr. Nine has stayed at one in Dallas and just loved the modern vibes. It was one of the top rated and I must say it was very lovely. Unfortunately, the weather means too yucky to go swimming, but the breakfast, pool area and bathroom was gorgeous.
Literally the ONLY PIC of the two of us together in Austin.
I had a list of places that I definitely wanted to go and I probably could write an entire post about this first one. The Taquero Mucho is just a cute little restaurant, but what makes it so magnificent is the decor and all the pink! The drinks are so creative and unique, and the pink waffles were out of this world!
Basically, we just decided to not only check out the South Congress area, but just walk around the city and see what we could find. A couple of our favorite stops were the original yeti store, the Tecovas shop, an ice cream shop and one of the most magnificent landscapes at a hotel that was along the river walk.
Lots of murals to be found too.
That night we really did have a blast. We went to dinner at Anthem and sat in the cutest green velvet booth.
Then hit several bars with live entertainment. Rainey Street was my favorite area. With its colorful and bustling array of bars, restaurants, food trucks and entertainment venues, it's a sure bet for experiencing local characters and the vibrancy of the city. It's quieter then 6th street but so much more charming. The 90’s rock band we listened to, Star Seed from San Antonio was amazing. Well, we were probably some of the oldest people there, but of course, we fit ourselves right in and sing along to many of the songs!
I’ll talk more about this in a minute, but I wish I would’ve gotten more pictures because I absolutely loved the jumpsuit I was wearing and got several compliments on it, lol. Here's the very top half in my only trip selfie.
The next day was Easter, so we dressed up. I absolutely loved my lavender dress and brunch at Stella San Jac was just as wonderful as all the reviews said it would be. I had the best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had.
We really did love the Riverwalk and logged more than 20,000 steps each day. Sunday night we just got casual for dinner.
As with Waco, I must say Austin didn’t quite live up to the expectation Mr. Nine had in his mind. It’s probably another place that we won’t go back to and we’re really scratching our heads at why so many people find it a desirable place to move to? BUT no worries, every other trip we took in 2024 was fabulous and I'll share more of those soon. Plus despite saying we weren't going to travel as much in 2025, the travel bug hit this weekend and we've got a few great trips planned.
Have you been to Austin?
Happy Fresh, New Week my Friends...

Looking good! I LOVE that top you're wearing in the last picture. All of the restaurants that you went to look so good with the photo ops and ambiance. I have never been to Austin, TX and don't have a huge desire to go there so I probably wouldn't plan a trip there. But I'd be happy to see it if I was in the vicinity.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a bit since I went to Austin. We should go sometime. It looks like you had some great food and at least the walks were good!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to spend a long weekend in Austin! All of the food looks so delicious and that Taquero Mucho restaurant looks amazing!

I've been to Austin twice, about four years apart. The second trip I was not impressed. The city felt like it needed a power wash. We were there for a wedding in the HIll Country and that I loved!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing time! I loved Austin when we went too. That purple dress looks amazing on you and that dumpling dessert is right up my sweet tooth alley!

ReplyDeleteWow, what a fun time it looks like you both had in Austin. I love all of the outfits and you always look so nice. The food looks amazing. I've never been to Texas but I'd love to visit sometime. I hope you stay warm and have a nice week.
ReplyDeleteI went to UT Austin back in the late 80's, and Austin is really not the same city it was then. It makes me a little sad that it has lost its "hippie" vibe and small town feeling. When I was there, you could drive from one side of the city to the other in about 20 minutes. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you are back to blogging
ReplyDeleteI have not been to Austin... The only time I've been to Texas was when I flew into Dallas on our way to Hawaii! Ha ha! OHH, I am all about the food on trips! That brunch looks delicious! I love that lavender dress on you!

I've never been to Austin. I love these kinds of posts because it gives me an insight about different locations we may or may not want to visit. We are planning a little trip with the kids to Nashville in April and probably will stick to kid friendly activities. I have driven past Nashville many times but have only walked around the Opryland Hotel. I will do some research and visit a couple blogs to get some ideas!

One of the things we liked about Austin was the options for gluten free restaurants. While that's not on everyone's checked boxes list, it made it much easier to go out to eat.
