WHY IMPROMPTU TRIPS ARE GOOD FOR YOU

Planning trips is great, you've got your list, your itinerary, you know what you want to see. Heaven knows this girl is a trip planner. However, there is something about a last minute impromptu, fly by the seat of your pants, trip that is amazing, needed in this crazy life and super therapeutic even if it does only last 24 hours, lol
Mr. Nine and I had an Anni last Monday so on Sunday morning, we said "Let's Go To Chicago!" Let me tell ya, there is something so freeing about NOT having a plan, a de-stressor of wondrous proportions! We are certainly lucky that Chicago is only a couple hours away! And we lucked out on the most glorious weather  You know I despise wind and believe it or not, the windy city was not even windy, just a cool breeze coming off the water.

It got be thinking of some of reasons why impromptu, last minute trips are so important. So, along with our little 24 hour away Chicago recap, are some reasons why you should do it, whether as a couple, with the family or even alone.

No think "Packing!"
Yes to this, when I am anticipating a trip, I literally overthink my packing for weeks! Heading out last minute, means grab and outfit or two and go. No time to think "but what shoes?"

You will however, see more of this outfit on Wednesday, just wait til you see the sleeves!!

No Reservations, No Problem
Just gimmie some peanut butter M&M's at a road stop on the way. No need for fancy smancy dinners, the Shake Shack worked just fine. Walked right in and whoa, for this SS newbie, I was blown away...those fries, the vanilla malt...such deliciousness. And think about this, easy dinners mean a little mula saved.

Room Service for our Anniversary Morning breakfast, YES!! We sat across the desk from each other in the room and enjoyed one of our favorite morning treats!

One of the reason we were dying to get back to Chicago was to go to Italy and get my beloved Slice Oil, Moscato and his favorite Revolotion Brewery Beer, so we had lunch there too. MMM calzone, fresh mozeralla board, oh it was so good!!
They sat us in a window where the sun was beating down but I didn't even care, moscato in hand, lol!

You're Super Chill
No itinerary means go with the flow, no rush, just living life mentality. We would just stop and sit or hang out on the hotel rooftop and just take in the city.

Yep, still suck at selfies!!

Look at us waiting for our car, bellman said "it's gonna be awhile" and we were like "no problem! We're in no hurry!"
Hop in the car and GO!! No Hurries, No Worries!!

And do you believe we were impromptu again this past Saturday to Chicago and went to the U2 concert? More on that on Friday! For home bodies, we're crazy like that lately, lol!!

  2. You guys are too cute!! I think impromptu trips are so much fun - we don't get to do them that often since we dont own a car - we plan things a little more, but sometimes we wake up and just rent a zipcar and go!! Having the weather cooperate is always nice!! U2? How amazing that you saw them in concert!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  4. Ahhhh I miss just getting in the car and going. I haven't done that in a good eleven years (if you catch on...since I got married.) One day I hope to change that!!! You look so pretty and Mr. Nine is rocking that chill factor! Love you sweets, have a good week!!!

  5. My husband and I used to do that ALL The TIME before kids... so two years ago on our anniversary I said I'm not planning anything and let's just see what happens. It was such a good thing we hadn't planned anything. We had hoped to get to the white mountains and the day we left it was pouring rain with rain in the forecast for the next three days. We headed to the Pocono mountains instead and had a fabulous time... even if it did take 4 stops to find a hotel with a vacancy!

  6. Ah! So much fun! I am a planner too, but there is something really nice about having that weight lifted. Plus then there are no expectations and anything that happens is great. What a fun trip, I am glad you guys enjoyed it!

  7. I totally agree that sometimes it's just good for the soul to pick up and go! A few months ago Steven and I randomly decided to book a hotel in Charlotte the day following a wedding in North Carolina and we had just the best time! Happy Monday!!

  12. I think I love impromptu more than planned trips! One of our favorites was in Duluth, after my sisters wedding. We decided to drive north along the shore and called no less that 30 hotels/B&B's and found nothing. We finally found a hotel after driving an hour and a half. It was the BEST trip!!

  13. I suffer from Wanderlust ;) so I am always down for an impromptu trip! Plus, the spontaneity is good for my very planned-out heart.

  16. I'm all about impromptu trips! They are so fun! The biggest one I've taken was a few years ago before I got married. My best friend and I randomly found a great deal on a flight to DC and bought them and flew there without any plans whatsoever! It was so fun! My husband is such a planner so I'll probably never be able to take such a spontaneous, plan-free trip ever again, but it was a perfect girls' trip! You and your husband are the cutest!

  20. It sounds like you had such a wonderful time! We don't do many impromptu trips now that we have a little one and doggies to arrange care for, but I'm sure one of these days it will get easier to get away again!

  24. I totally agree with impromptu trips and I miss them so much now that Baby Girls is here and TWELVE! Before she entered our lives, Wayne and would come home from work and say, "Let's go!" and that's all I needed to hear! Miss those days! They don't happen nearly as often as they use to! Looks like y'all had a wonderful impromptu weekend! Love you, Girl!

  25. Aren't those the best times?! When you have no where to be but exactly where you are. It's a little tougher for us with the little guys but we try not to put too much stress on any of our getaways (you never know when one of the kids needs a break). I'm glad that you had a wonderful anniversary. Cheers to many many more.

  26. Love that you guys got to take an impromptu trip to Chicago! It looks like you had a great time. It is a little harder to just go without any planning right now with baby, but hopefully we will get the chance to do it again in a few years! All of your food pictures are making me very hungry!

  27. How much fun and what a great trip! I love seeing your travels and love that you do so much as a couple. Impromptu trips are a lot of fun and tend to feel more relaxed for me because I don't have time to worry about what we missed. And if we did miss something then we put it on our list for next time! Looking forward to seeing more of your dress this week! Beautifully Candid

  37. Impromptu trips are the best! My husband and I decided to drive to Virginia one day (before we had kids). We left at 8pm and stopped at a hotel in sothern NJ when we got tired, then drove the rest of the way the following day. It's so fun to just "wing it" every once in a while!

  39. You're so right! Planning for a trip can be exciting yet you overthink the itinerary and over pack just because you never know...An impromptu trip sounds like a lovely getaway with your Mr. No stressing ahead of time but it does help returning to a known city you already know what you're in for except maybe the weather. Love Chicago and so happy to hear the weather treated you well!
