What a glorious week! Although it was an exhausting week because of the election, the weather could not have been better for northern Indiana. 60s and 70s, sunny and delightful and it’s going to last right until next Tuesday! When I was not outside, I was inside decking our halls like crazy and it is looking gorgeous! I cannot wait to share it with you. For now, Let’s get right to Friday Favorites!
1. The YETI Bartender is BAAACK
CARAMEL APPLE MIMOSAS
It’s back! I brought back the Yeti Bartender to showcase my new favorite Fall cocktail! This would be perfect for the holidays and I’ve already made it several times! When we went to lower Michigan a few weekends ago, I had a Caramel Apple Mimosa and I knew right away that I would want to re-create it! Go over to the Yeti Bartender & My Channel and check it out and let me know what you think!
2. MOM's Birthday Yesterday
Many of you may have seen that my sweet mama had a birthday yesterday on Instagram stories! And while we couldn’t really go out and do anything, we were blessed with the gorgeous weather. I made her one of the above-mentioned caramel apple mimosas, a lovely salad some naan bread with brie cheese and bacon jam and lemon mousse for dessert. I’m including the recipe below. Then, we went and walked 5 miles on our local pumpkinvine trail, and I got to shower her with sweet gifts but there could never be enough gifts to thank her for being the best mom in the whole wide world! I am very blessed!
Lemon Mousse with Shortbread
Ingredients
1 cup whipping cream
2/3 cup lemon curd (I find this in the jelly/jam/PB aisle)
1/4 cup powdered sugar
3-4 Shortbread Cookies
Lemon slices, raspberries and mint sprigs for garnish
(also, I dip lemon slices in sugar)
Directions
With a mixer on medium speed, mix together whipping cream and powdered sugar. Move mixer to high speed until soft peaks form. Fold in Lemon Curd. Crush some shortbread cookies and place in the bottom of 4 desert dishes. Top with Lemon Mousse and desired garnishes!
I am a huge fan of the slouchy sweater, especially with jeans or leggings and boots! I am over the moon and the colors in this one from the Mint Julep Boutique
Well hot dog! Remember the hot dog costume I brought home and disinfected that was found in our son’s apartment, left there by a sorority girl long ago? Well I brought it out for Halloween, LOL! Even if fro insta stories only, lol
BATH & BODY BOY
You may remember a few years ago when one of our sons worked at Bath and Body for the Christmas season? Well since he doesn’t start his big boy Amazon job until January, he’s back at it and the several dozen other ladies that work with him are probably loving it! LOL. Isn’t his uniform so cute!! Now, Bring mama some antibacterial and candles. Ha!! Also Candle scents are top secret til next week, he is sworn to secrecy!
SNEAK PEEKS
As I mentioned, I have been decorating for Christmas this week, here are a couple sneak peaks but we will get more in depth soon.
HALLMARK MUG
It’s that time of year and all the great Hallmark movies to be watched and Cocoa, coffee and tea to be drank! You need this mug!
Why oh why do you have to go October? Just when you were getting FALL fantastic! And so, it goes. That’s ok because I know right behind it is my beloved Christmas season and I may or may not already have a couple of my 17 trees decorated, LL! Anyway, it’s Halloween weekend which truly this year is no big deal and who am I kidding it’s never a big deal for us anymore now that the boys are grown so let’s just get right to Friday Favorites!
1. More Michigan
Monday, I talked about our annual Trip to Upper Michigan and how beautiful the leaves were. Well, the weekend before we went to lower Michigan for a quality day with one of our sons. This particular son is the one who got a job at Amazon and he will be moving about 2 1/2 hour south of us very soon. We had a fun day going to a couple breweries and ending the evening with pumpkin treats from Culver’s.
Feeding the Ducks, lol
2. Homemade Applesauce
I made my second batch of homemade applesauce this past weekend to freeze and it was even more delicious with all the apples we brought back from Michigan. I altered The Pioneer Woman's recipe just a little bit and it was utter perfection. I’m a stanch believer that certain varieties of apples are the best for certain foods and for applesauce it’s definitely a mix of Macintosh and yellow delicious per my mama!
HOMEMADE APPLESAUCE
INGREDIENTS
6lbs apples, peeled and cored
2 cups apple cider
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 Tblesp white sugar
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
Bring the apples and all the ingredients to a boil and turn down to a low simmer, cover and cook for about 25 to 30 minutes. You can mash them right in the stock pot or pour into a bowl to mask. We save a couple containers in the fridge and freeze the rest; it makes about 12 servings.
Let me tell you, these puff sleeve tops are bringing back some memories! These were huge in the early 80s, along with the ones that had a little ruffle down each side. I fell hard for this puffy plaid one from Target!
Check, check, check...done ALL the Fall things this week! Walks among the beautiful changing leaves, making a delicious apple crisp, eating a pumpkin doughnut, pictures by all my mums and punkies and burning all my Fall candles! not stopping anytime soon, that is, until it’s time to put up all my Christmas trees, LOL! Happy Friday, let’s get to it!
1. Michigan Day Date
Another Fall fabulous day here with my Mr. Nine! We took advantage of one of the last warm days and went to a new area brewery in lower Michigan where we social distanced out in Adirondack chairs, had our own little alfresco dinner under a tented picnic table and they even had fire pits there where you could buy your own S’mores kits!
2. Leaves
The leaves have been at their peak here in Indiana this week and I was happy to snap some photographs. Just look at this first one and the beautiful tunnel of leaves on our local Pumpkinvine Trail. Mom and I walked it on Tuesday again and look at her beautiful mustard gold to match the beautiful gold leaves we found!
I showed you my outdoor decor last Monday but I’m not doing a post on indoor Fall decor as it is pretty much the same as Last Year. Here are some tidbits.
