WHY THE HELL NOT

Does the use of profanity in the title make you really want to read this post, lol. I must mean business! Seriously friends, let's get real. Why do we always put stuff off?

My recent "kick the sugar out of my diet" campaign really got me thinking about this subject. Right after Christmas it was like OK I'm gonna wait til after the New Year, then it was like OK, our son has a birthday and I want to eat a big meal with dessert so I'll wait till after that and then it was like OK, it's so dreary out so I want to eat comfort food till finally I just said Andrea what are you doing? If you keep waiting, you'll never do this. Do it now!!

Huge Laurie said "It's a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you're ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only NOW. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good as time as any." Yet, we wait, we say no, I'm not ready or I'll get to it or someday.......yet often that someday never comes.

We think we're too busy for this or for that so there is no time to do the things we REALLY want to do. When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred tasks running through your head? Ever told your child, 'We'll do it tomorrow." and in your haste, not watched their sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say 'Hi'?

How richer would our lives be if we'd done what our children wished for, kept friendships alive, called, yes, called not texted to say "Hi!" All because you said "Now!" Let's play in the rain, the mud, go crazy! Not only do the things you want to do, do the things you need to do. Get on the healthy eating train, tidy your house, control your spending and reduce your stress. Trust me when I say I'm a get er' done kind of girl. Never been a procrastinator but the older I get the more it does take to get me motivated. Yet, when I do it now, the fun and the need to, I fell so much better!!! Doing things in the now can only stand to help make you a better person.

This brings me to another reason for this post and a need to "not wait!" The term "Saving It for Good!" This term was coined back in the depression era when families didn't have much so when they did receive something nice, they didn't want to waste it so they would "Save it for Good." My dear grandmother, who many of you know, passed away in 2016 lived during this era and sometimes when we would give her, for example, earrings or a nice sweater, we'd notice she wasn't wearing them and asked her why? "Saving it for good" she'd say. While I didn't grow up during tough financial times, my mom and I would often do this and when we got something nice, "save it for good." Why? What is good? A trip to the "BIG" Mall? A dinner that doesn't involve Chipotle bowls or chicken nuggets? "Good" may not happen, wear it today, eat it today, use it today.

Life isn't a dress rehearsal and we don't get a do-over. Enjoy each minute it brings and if you want to do something...DO IT NOW!!!!

xoxo

  5. Great post for a Monday, really struck a chord with me. I put off phone calls to friends because I can't stand talking on the phone but that is really making those friendships suffer. Thanks for the kick in the butt!

  10. Such a great Monday motivator!!! I literally had this convo on Friday with myself about getting back to my normal workout schedule... This momma needs to get her groove back for Mexico in April! I wrote down my workouts and meal plans yesterday for February! Gotta start now! :)

  14. YES!! Love this thought process, and really want to make a change for myself this year in not putting things off and just enjoying little moments, like you said. So with that, I'm off to have a piece of chocolate for breakfast :) Hope you have a wonderful and perfect week ahead, my friend! XO

  16. I am TOTALLY on the same page with the whole "save it for good" thing. Yes I do put some money in savings however, I also want to enjoy my life in the moment and use money to make awesome memories or buy awesome things! Life is too short!!

  19. PREACHHHHHH it! I have a favorite saying that I read that stuck with me that says, "We live like tomorrow is promised"... If we really got into that thinking, I think we'd all light those fires under our butts!

  20. I have to say... I really couldn't agree with this more. And, it is a good reminder if there is something in your life you need to just do and you've been hesitating!!

  21. Years ago my mother in law told me a story about her mom. When her mom died they were cleaning out her drawers and found all these beautiful nightgowns and slips still in their boxes. Her mom was saving them for a special day. That day never came. That resonated with me and I have always tried to use things since then.

  24. Nice post my friend! I know what you mean. I used to put off playing my guitar until I thought I was ready to perform. until I got things perfect. Hubby said basically to do it for myself, enjoy it in the moment. It can be tough! Sounds like you are getting on with the sugar situation.. I am not as much of a procreastinator as my hubby, but there are certain things right?

    Stop by when you can
    Have a great week!

  26. I love this post so much!!! I completely agree to never save the good for a special occasion because every day should be special! I have gotten better about not saving stuff for later. I still always say one day I would like to do this or that, and I need to get better about asking myself why not today with those things too!

  29. So true. I resonate with keeping it for good. I make an effort to make 'good' just one year then the item comes into general circulation.

  30. LOVE this post!! And all of it is SO TRUE. I have always been the type of person who "wants things done yesterday" so I'm all about 'why the hell not?' Haha!

  31. Amen, friend! I LOVE this post and everything is SO true! I am the type of person that always says, "I'll start working out on Monday" or "I'll wait until next month" but you are so right...there is NO need to wait! Thanks for sharing this and I think the title is fitting! :)

  33. Yes, yes, yes! Andrea, this is such an awesome reminder! We all try to put things off so much in our lives and wait for that perfect moment, but we're not promised tomorrow and we need to make the most of every second. Just what I needed to hear on this Monday! Have a great evening pretty lady! :)

  34. Such a heartfelt post sweet friend. I needed to hear all of these things again. I too have my sweet MIL who saves things for "good" (most are still in the original boxes/gift boxes and are untouched, will be passed on later). I try to encourage her to enjoy them now! She's 98 and a half!!! I have found myself pairing things down, so that I use what we have. It does make a difference. I have a quote in my dining room (the least used room in our home) that says "everyday is a special occasion" as a reminder to celebrate each day. The song House of Dreams by Casting Crowns has really hit home for me lately. So much time spent with technology. We aren't guaranteed tomorrow. Thanks for sharing so openly.

  40. Way to put things into prospective because I know so many people/women agree we procrastinate on things that seem to get put on the back burner because of our jobs, family life, etc. But if you make it a point to do it today, then why the hell not follow through!! xoxo

  41. Such a great reminder Andrea. None of us are promised another day - we have to live each moment like it's our last. Love this post and YOU!

  44. I absolutely love this post!!! I'm so guilty of saving things for 'good' too. It's crazy, right? We really do need to enjoy everything whenever we can, not just special occasions. After all, who knows how many of those we will have left! Wonderful post, Andrea. <3 <3 <3

  57. This is such a great post Andrea. I have been guilty sooo many times of talking up a fun activity to my kids and then putting it off just one more day. I don't know what's gotten into me in 2017...I've already taken Carly Jo to the movies twice, read 6 books, spent a weekend with teen boys and just made it 5 days away without my computer!! I feel like I'm not "getting things done" but at the same time I'm feeling a little more relaxed. It's all about not being wasteful for me and these words spoke to me.
