I adore all different kinds of styles and fashions and in addition to being "Best Dressed" as one of the High School superlatives I was deemed back in the late 80's, another one was "Preppiest!" I loved me some Izod, popped up collars and all, Benetton called my name often and you could often find me, besides being in heels, in Tretorn tennis shoes. I wore it all but man, how I loved to be preppy. Last year, our boys, who also enjoy being prepsters, were asking for all these Vineyard Vines clothes and said it was the new "thing" in teen fashion. When we saw the prices, I was like what parents are buying this stuff? Sooo expensive but after some good sales, they were sporting a few things from the Vine. Fast forward to February when our son got a job there, the only store they have in our state. His discount was literally the best I'd ever seen in retail. Imagine my utter delight when he gave me this darling dress for my birthday last month.
Wow, have I taught this boy well or what? It fit to a tee, includes my favorite color pink, and will look amazing this summer by the water.
Vineyard Vines was created by 2 brothers, Shep and Ian, who got tired of the business daily office grind in NYC and moved back to Martha's Vineyard, the ultimate preppy playground, to create cool ties. What it grew into was a whole family affair clothing line with darling ensembles, fresh off the boat kind of looks. What I love about the company, beside quality clothing created in the USA, is their commitment to philanthropic endeavors and giving back.
Unfortunately, our son had to give his notice as came home for the summer and will be transferring to a different college in the Fall but he sure loved his preppy gig and who knows, maybe more stores will pop up as popularity grows.
He sure made mama happy with this sweet dress! And he even took these pictures.

That's a gorgeous shaped dress. Just so easy to wear. Looks fab on you.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest had a thing for Vineyard Vines a few years ago and I was dying at how pricey everything was but I sure loved it! Now his style has evolved to some type of hipster/90's grunge look - sigh. This dress is fantastic and I love everything about it, especially on you with your gorgeous tan skin! What a great birthday gift from your son! Love, love, love!

LOVE! That dress just SCREAMS summer!
ReplyDeleteThat dress has a great shape and definitely fits you well. I love the quality of Vinryard Vines products but I agree the can be budget busters. A few nice pieces for summer is all you need.
ReplyDeleteThat is a super pretty dress! So fun & perfect for summer!
ReplyDeleteAdorbs! You look just cute as can be and summer ready. Tell me about that Indiana sun because you are so freaking tan and I'm like wait a second - NC is way warmer than IN!?!?! I like VV but the prices keep me away from it most of the time. I have a few pieces here and there but I always just kind of walk away from it when I'm in Belk. I do love the knock offs though!!!
ReplyDeleteOf course you were best dressed in high school - i would expect nothing less! I love how lily inspired this dress is!! Perfectly paired with those laced up espadrilles! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
