The Fall harvest, bounty of the season and holidays floating in the air, signals the perfect time to give thanks! Go get a little Autumn crazy and join us or hop around and check out what others like about this glorious, gateway to the Holiday, season!
Let’s get to it!
1. Have you ever kept a Gratitude Journal? Yes or No? I kept a diary growing up, but that changed over to a gratitude type journal 22 years ago after two local teenage girls were killed in a car accident.
My actual first diary...1986
2. Hosting Thanksgiving at your house? Yes or No? Yes, for the first time in many years. We will be having my mom’s side of the family. Look at the place cards I have been making for the dinner.
3. Favorite Food from The Thanksgiving Meal? Hands down, the turkey and stuffing! My due date with the oldest was on Thanksgiving but before I knew that I craved my family’s turkey and stuffing so how appropriate. And my parents always save me the crispy skin on the turkey....YUM!!
Mom's Bird is always beautiful!

4. What one thing in Nature are you most grateful for? So many things thanks to God's magnificent creation, but 2 especailly.....the changing leaves and snowflakes. Each one different and beautiful!
The Burning bushes surrounding the pond across form our house are incredible!
I do love the white stuff too!
5. Pumpkin Pie: Yes or No? NO! Isn’t it ironic? I am pumpkins and pumpkin treats, PSL’s, lotions, you name it, crazy.... but I DO NOT like pumpkin pie.
6. Traditional Cookbook: Yes or No? Traditional, although I do print off a lot of recipes and store in a binder. I don't like reading the recipe off a phone or iPad because I have a tendency to make a mess.
The BH&G NEW cook book is my favorite, Had it for years, like it even better than Betty Crocker. Makes a GREAT Christmas or Wedding Gift!

And Anything from JoJo, Like Magnolia Table or Ina or Giada!
7. Oven Baked or Deep-Fried Turkey? See #3....OVEN BAKED to golden brown and mom saves me the crispy skin. Even though I am hosting this year, mom is still making the turkey and dressing.
8. Thanksgiving Leftovers: Yes or No? OH yes, especially turkey sandwiches.
9. What is one household product your most grateful for? That's tough but one thing I do use most everyday is my Dyson V6 cordless vacuum! Now that we have a lot of wood flooring, that thing is a lifesaver to quickly pick up crumbs on the floor, especially in the kitchen. This girl loves a VERY clean floor!

10. Are you most grateful for home cooked meals or restaurant meals? Both. You all know I LOVE to cook and bake but what a treat to go out to eat, which is rare for us. And home cooke meals are so special if done by my mom. However, I especially love it when we can all go out together as a family. One of my favorite meals of the year is our January tradition at Ruth Chris. So yummy and fun!
I am headed off on a day adventure with my amazing mom for her Birthday today. Remember the epic one that many of you assisted with Last Year??

Whoaaaahhhhhh - that red cookbook just took my back to my childhood!! I remember my Mom having it too and always seeing it on the counter while she was cooking! I have that cookbook! It helps a new cook learn! And I love the stuffing too.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally with you on pumpkin pie! I love a good pumpkin muffin and a pumpkin roll, but there's something about pumpkin pie that's just not for me! Stuffing is, however, hands-down my favorite part of the meal. We do a three-week dehydrated bread mixed with dried herbs, and then I add fresh chopped apples, sausage, maple syrup, and some crushed red pepper...divine! Oh, I'm feeling all things Thanksgiving now! Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteI'm hosting this year and so grateful to be doing so! I love family and food and mimosas! Happy Monday beautiful!
ReplyDeletePeace!

Ok, so we have wood floors running throughout our home, so based on your love of your cordless vacuum, and same just now from Sarah over at Foxy's Domestic side, I'm getting one!
ReplyDeleteLove your cute Thanksgiving place settings! Enjoy the day, and don't stress over the turkey once it becomes your turn. They really are easy. It's the making of the gravy that makes me crazy at the last minute that makes me crazy!
I love traditional cookbooks too. You are so right, it is such a treat to go out and eat. I need that new better homes and garden cook book. I love your place cards and I love that your mama is making the turkey this year...YES to the crispy skin! Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteWishing your Mom a very Happy Birthday!! Ok, those Turkey place cards are awesome!! We do go out to eat for Thanksgiving and it is a quite a treat. It is actually really enjoyable and my Grandmother loves it. At her age, there aren't much that she really enjoys and going out on Turkey Day is one of them. Plus, they always give her a goody bag to go home with and she just loves that. They don't really allow it but for her, they do.
ReplyDeleteThose place cards are adorable...that's why I'm a terrible hostess..I do nothing of the sort!!
ReplyDeleteAnd happy birthday to mom!! They are wonderful creatures~!
XOXO

Happy Birthday to your sweet sister, I mean mom ;-) You two are adorable. And yes, the crispy skin is the best part.
ReplyDeleteI hope you lovelies are having a very special day!! I'm with you on the pumpkin pie but like everything else pumpkin. Love those cute place cards. You are good! How many are you hosting for dinner? I'm not hosting this year but was thinking about it. I'm relieved actually! Looking forward to it and I make a lot of food for the veggies in the group and the leftovers are the best!
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of indifferent to the actual turkey, but you "got" me on stuffing and I make the same sweet potato casserole that you do--almost like dessert!
ReplyDeleteFun answers! I hate I didn't make it in on this one. I have been frustrated with my blog and adsense. Still trying to get it all back together.
ReplyDeleteSweet potato casserole is one of my favs also!
Not a big fan of pumpkin pie but will take a piece if its not real spicy and it has to be loaded with whip topping!
Lisa
I cannot wait to see all of the details from your Thanksgiving! it's always so much fun to host!
ReplyDeleteMy mom has that cookbook too & I used to love looking through it at all the recipes. Especially the ones with notes next to them.
ReplyDeleteThat's so exciting that you get to host Thanksgiving this year! It has to be so much fun to have all of your family over at your house!
ReplyDeleteThat sweet potato crisp looks amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat cookbook just makes me think of my mom's kitchen in the 70's - what a classic!!!
I'm shocked at how many people dont like pumpkin pie!
I LOVE pumpkin pie and can't wait to have it. I almost picked one up at Whole Foods this weekend. Crazy you don't like it. Ha. But I used to hate turkey stuffing until more recently. Now I eat sooo much of it with gravy on it. Ha. Turkey is a huge favorite of mine too!
ReplyDeleteI hope your mom had a very special birthday! While I do love eating out I feel like when it's more than just a handful of people it's much easier to talk and reminisce at home without the noise of a restaurant (or fear of being the loud ones in the restaurant).
ReplyDeleteOops, got so carried away reading all those thankful snippets about you that I didn't read the link up theme and linked off-theme. Sorry! Hugs, x.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, I hope you and that darling mom of yours celebrate big!!! Your Thanksgiving will be marvelous!!!

Those turkey place cards are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThose place cards are adorable!!! And if you peek at my TBB this month, I would eat pumpkin pie all day long... how can you not love it?? LOL!
ReplyDeleteYour place cards are so adorable!! Save a spot for me! LOL Happy birthday to your mama!!
ReplyDeleteI love me some turkey and stuffing too -- best part about Thanksgiving dinner. That's so funny how you love all things pumpkin, but not the actual pie. :D
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your darling mama. She is still quite the fashionista. Hope you girls got into some mischief and had a great time together.
ReplyDeletePinned the sweet potato recipe. Looks like a casserole my mama made at Thanksgiving. Look forward to trying it.
Great answer to what you're most thankful for in nature! Wish I had thought of snow flakes. I just love me some snow.
I can't believe you don't like pumpkin pie! Hope you had a great day with the birthday girl.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to your mama!! I agree with going out to eat, it makes it feel so special when you can do it with all your loved ones. It's one of my favorite things to do with my immediate family.
ReplyDeleteAmanda @ Cupcake N dreams
Now I'm in the mood for Thanksgiving! What a sweet picture of you and your mom. I do enjoy pumpkin pie, though. Mmmm.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from #happynowlinkup
I'm not a big fan of pumpkin pie either, Andrea! But I love pumpkin in just about everything else! We've been eating rather a lot of it lately because we grew a HUGE one this year and it's delicious. Pumpkin cake, pumpkin curry, pumpkin chilli, Roast pumpkin..... the list goes on and on!!

I just love how you hang out with your mom so much! So fun and sweet! I also love how she is still making the turkey and stuffing even though you're hosting, what a sweetie!! I love those place cards! I am going to check out your sweet potato crisp recipe, I need to bring 2 recipes to my brother's house on Thanksgiving.

Homemade stuffing is definitely one of my favorite Thanksgiving dishes and I'm also a big fan of the crispy skin. Your mom's yummy bird looks similar to how ours comes out from the oil-free turkey fryer. Juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside is perfection. I can't believe you still have your diary from 1986, well I can believe it because I just brought back my 3 journals from childhood that have been sitting at my parents house in Trinidad. I've been meaning to read them but haven't brought myself to it yet. Happy birthday to your sweet and gorgeous Momma! I hope you both enjoy celebrating her day! xo Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis
ReplyDeleteI need to check out that Dyson! I have a white tile floor and I'm sweeping multiple times a day. This sounds like a big time saver! I love those place cards too!
